About the event
For this special Sunday afternoon event, we’re hosting afternoon tea and a watercolour painting workshop led by artist Reyhaneh. The event is held at our home, 83 Dalston Lane - a cosy and comfortable space with a bo-ho bistro vibe, seating 18 people. Tickets are £15 and afternoon tea includes housemade cakes, sandwiches, tea, and soft drinks.
Afternoon tea follows a beginner-friendly watercolour painting and drawing workshop guided by Reyhaneh, an artist, workshop facilitator and valued guest of Mike’s Table. Reyhaneh works with mixed media to experiment with different materials and creative practice. She says: 'Watercolour is my preferred medium. Although watercolour can feel unpredictable, it encourages you to embrace imperfections and develop an intuitive artistic style.'
We invite 15 guests for free. They are referred by local organisations and charities who support clients who find themselves socially isolated. We save 3 tickets for you to buy. Your presence significantly contributes to the evening, helping to promote a greater understanding and knowledge across the different layers of our community. It’s also a joyful afternoon out with terrific food. All our chefs are professional, and the food and service and what you’d expect from any good neighbourhood restaurant.
The menu is creatively devised on the day by Andi, our head chef, using surplus organic produce kindly donated by Wholegood and our generous regular partner City Harvest. The food is always within its used-by date and would otherwise be thrown away.
Kind words from our previous guests
"I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an incredible array of food."
"H lives in a hotel with no access to cooking facilities - he hasn’t eaten so well for more than a year."
"This is like being at a huge dinner party! The flavours in every dish are so incredible."
“The organisers are such lovely people! They have a real gift for making everyone feel welcome and for creating a truly convivial atmosphere so that nobody feels awkward or left out. Imagine sitting down at a long table with a bunch of perfect strangers! For many people including myself this sounds awkward, bordering on scary. I’ve no idea how they do it but minutes later everyone becomes relaxed and chatty! Something in the air, perhaps?”
“I had a wonderful evening at Mike’s Table. I must admit I was a little bit nervous and excited about going. I wasn’t sure what to expect. But, everyone was so welcoming and put us at ease. People shared feeling and experiences with one another. It was such a special and heart-warming evening that I will never forget.”
